MMSD, Metro Transit offer free summer bus access

The Summer Youth Pass program allows eligible students to ride Metro buses at no cost throughout the summer, helping students maintain independence and stay connected to educational, employment and community opportunities while school is out of session.

Students who already have an active Metro youth pass can continue using the same card over the summer without taking any additional steps.

Students who do not already have a pass can access the Summer Youth Pass virtually through Metro Transit’s Fast Fare mobile app. To receive a pass, students should email mymetrobus@cityofmadison.com from their MMSD student email account, ending in @madison.k12.wi.us, with the subject line “Summer Youth Pass.”

Physical passes will also remain available on an as-needed basis. Before June 5, students may request a pass through their school office. After that date, physical passes will be available at the student’s feeder high school during summer school.

“Reliable transportation helps students stay connected to learning opportunities, employment, recreation and their broader community throughout the summer months,” said Vanessa Cruz, MMSD assistant director of transportation and logistics. “We’re grateful to continue partnering with Metro Transit to help remove barriers and make it easier for students to access the opportunities available to them across Madison.”

“Metro Transit is excited to team up with MMSD again to offer accessible transportation for everyone, especially for young riders,” said AJ Liedl, marketing manager at Metro Transit. “This partnership helps students get to summer jobs, athletic camps, community programs and other fun activities across the region.”
