The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is partnering with the Dane County Immunization Coalition and healthcare providers to host a free vaccine clinic for children and teens ages five through 18 at this Sunday’s 18th Annual Back 2 School Free Haircutz event, taking place at the Alliant Energy Center.
The vaccine clinic will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center’s Exhibition Hall, located at 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way in Madison. Families are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance and bring a copy of their child’s immunization records to help expedite the vaccination process.
As an added incentive, the first 80 children who receive a vaccination at the event will receive a gift card for a brand-new pair of shoes.
“Making sure students are up to date on their vaccinations is an important part of preparing them for a healthy and successful school year,” said Sarah Breon, MMSD’s director of health services. “We’re grateful to be part of an event that brings families together and makes important health services accessible in a welcoming community setting. We encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity to review their child’s immunization records and get any needed vaccinations before school begins.”
Wisconsin’s student immunization law requires students to provide proof of minimum immunizations, including DTaP/Tdap, polio, MMR, varicella (chickenpox), hepatitis B and MenACWY, with requirements varying by grade level. Families who are unsure whether their child’s immunizations are up to date can bring their records to the clinic for review.
