When Jasmine Brownlee begins her second semester in Madison College's Nursing Program this fall, she'll do so with additional support to help her stay focused on her education and future career.
Brownlee recently received a $2,000 scholarship through the Madison College Reedsburg Celebrate a Nurse 5K, an annual event that raises funds for nursing students pursuing careers in healthcare.
For Brownlee, nursing is more than a career choice. It's an opportunity to provide the same compassion and care that helped her through difficult times in her own life.
"Support from this scholarship helps me continue progressing through the Madison College nursing program and allows me to carry that same compassion forward into the care I provide to others," Brownlee said.
The scholarship is funded through community support of the Celebrate a Nurse 5K Run/Walk, including sponsorship from Sauk Prairie Healthcare, a clinical partner for Madison College nursing students. Since the event began in 2001, it has raised more than $60,000 to help students offset tuition and clinical-related expenses.
"Jasmine's commitment to pursuing a nursing career reflects the dedication and compassion our communities need in future healthcare professionals," said Linda Spencer, Madison College northern campus manager. "We are grateful to the supporters and participants of the Celebrate a Nurse 5K who help students overcome financial barriers so they can focus on achieving their goals."
The scholarship comes as health care employers across Wisconsin continue to seek qualified nurses and health care professionals. Through hands-on clinical experiences and community partnerships, Madison College prepares students to enter the workforce ready to serve patients and communities.
Madison College Reedsburg is a health care-focused campus offering programs in nursing, nursing assistant, EMT and paramedic training. The Nursing Program admits new students in both the fall and spring semesters.
The next Madison College Reedsburg Celebrate a Nurse 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for May 1, 2027.
