The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a nonnative, invasive insect known to attack all North American ash species. First detected in Michigan in 2002, the EAB has since killed millions of ash trees in the Midwest.
As of 2025, the City of Fitchburg is no longer treating EAB and will work to remove all city-owned ash trees.
