The Foundation for Dane County Parks and Dane County Parks joined community members, local leaders, and the Ragatz family on Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of major improvements at Mendota County Park.
The event included remarks from Dane County Executive Melissa Agard, local representatives, and members of the Ragatz family, followed by an official ribbon cutting and a walk or roll through the newly improved park.
"Mendota County Park reflects what is possible when community, philanthropy, and public investment come together," says Dane County Executive Melissa Agard. "These improvements increase access, expand recreational opportunities, and ensure this park continues to serve as a welcoming space for families and neighbors to gather for generations to come."

The project was made possible through philanthropic support honoring Tom and Karen Ragatz, whose legacy continues to benefit the Dane County community. Tom Ragatz, a respected attorney and civic leader, and Karen Ragatz, a dedicated educator and volunteer, were deeply committed to public service and community wellbeing.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Ragatz family and all who helped bring this vision to life," said Tom Wilson, president of the board of directors for the Foundation for Dane County Parks. "This project is a powerful example of how philanthropy can enhance our community in meaningful ways by creating spaces that are accessible and inclusive to everyone."
Mendota County Park, one of the oldest parks in the Dane County system, was established in 1951. The 19-acre park has long been a destination for outdoor recreation and access to Lake Mendota.
More than $1.6 million in philanthropic support, alongside $1 million in county funding, helped support the improvements.
