Colonial Club
From its origins as a social outlet for seniors in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, to being a comprehensive provider of social services for people age 55 and over, the Colonial Club has evolved over the past fifty years to meet the emerging needs of older adults.
Community Action Coalition
The Community Action Coalition provides services in three key areas: housing, food and clothing. Their mission is to develop the economic and social capacities of individuals, families and communities to reduce poverty in Dane, Jefferson and Waukesha counties.
Early Childhood Initiative
The Early Childhood Initiative provides free support centered around family stability, wellness, child development and healthy relationships for pregnant women and families with children ages 0 to 4.
Home Mission Fund
The Home Mission Fund provides assistance to community members who have experienced a sudden and temporary loss of income. The fund covers eviction prevention, car repairs and utilities.
Joining Forces for Families
Joining Forces for Families is a program through Dane County Department of Human Services that helps the Sun Prairie community through resource connection, creative problem-solving and advocacy.
Mckenzie Family Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club of Dane County is a leader in youth development programs, serving more than 6,500 young people across the Madison area. With licensed after-school programming that includes transportation, and a full-time day care facility, this space serves as a support system for the community.
Reach Dane - Sun Prairie Head Start

Reach Dane is a federally funded agency that provides Head Start and Early Head Start services for low income families in Dane and Green counties. RSVP of Dane County
For over 40 years, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has been offering personalized volunteer placement, matching volunteers age 55 and older with community service opportunities across Dane County. Volunteers share their knowledge, interests, experience and energy, contributing to the well-being of their local communities. Programs include Driver Services, Vets Helping Vets and Foster Grandparents.
Shelter from the Storm Ministries
Shelter from the Storm Ministries is transitional housing for homeless children and single-mother families. The organization provides a safe home, life skills training, facilitates education, financial coaching, therapy and mentoring through a Christ-centered support system.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Dane County
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Dane County (SVdP) provides resources and navigation to Dane County families struggling to make ends meet, with volunteers, members and staff serving these neighbors. SVdP serves through one of Dane County’s largest food pantries, the only stand-alone free pharmacy in Wisconsin, a 1.25-acre sustainable food pantry garden producing fruits and vegetables for the food pantry, a storage facility for the goods of persons who are homeless, secured housing stabilization services to formerly homeless single adult families with minor children, small-loan microlending programming, seven thrift stores offering direct charity and several other forms of customized assistance that help individuals and families move from surviving to thriving. SVdP has been in existence since 1925. In 2023, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Madison served over 101,000 people throughout Dane County. Several of the people served have no health insurance, live at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty line, have unreliable or no transportation, are working multiple jobs and are struggling with chronic diseases, including trauma-based mental health diagnoses.
Sun Prairie Parks Friends, Inc.
Through volunteering, financial contributions, advocacy and collaboration, Sun Prairie Parks Friends, Inc. assists in the preservation and improvement of recreational opportunities, land, ecosystems, structures and equipment within Sun Prairie parks.
Sunshine Place and programs
Sunshine Place is a single point of access to social services for Sun Prairie residents in times of need. In addition to being a community resource center, Sunshine Place has a resource lobby with access to computers, printing and faxing. Sunshine Place oversees several community programs, including:
- Beds for Kids - Beds for Kids delivers new beds to Sun Prairie School children in need. To request a bed, talk to a school social worker or the Joining Forces for Families community social worker at 608-825-3225.
- Community Learning Classes - Sunshine Place offers regular ESL and Spanish classes for beginners and partners with businesses, organizations and community members to provide other learning opportunities focused on individual and community growth.
- Food for Kids - This program provides year-round food supports to children in the Sun Prairie Area School District to help ensure that no child in the community goes hungry.
- Housing supports - Through housing navigation and utility assistance, Sunshine Place's housing supports assist neighbors in the Sun Prairie and Marshall area who are experiencing housing instability and facing obstacles securing and maintaining long-term housing.
- KiDs Closet - KiDs Closet is a free clothing resource for children and youth in the Sun Prairie and Marshall School Districts. If you are in need of clothing and your child attends Sun Prairie or Marshall schools, contact your child’s school social worker for a referral.
- Spirit of Giving - Spirit of Giving matches community sponsors with families in need to shop for holiday gifts for Sun Prairie School children. Each year, around 1,100 kids receive gifts.
- Stuff the Bus - Stuff the Bus is a volunteer program that collects school supplies and distributes filled backpacks to those in need in the Sun Prairie Area School District.
- Sunshine Pantry | 608-478-7918 - Sunshine Pantry is a full-choice pantry that utilizes community collaboration and support to provide sources of food and personal care items to anyone in need.
- Sunshine Legal Clinic - Since 2014, the Sunshine Legal Clinic has provided legal consultation services covering family law, debt collection, tenant rights, immigration and more.
- Sunshine Resource Lobby - The resource lobby connects neighbors with resources to help with employment, housing and other services. Additional food is often available in the lobby for those in need to take outside of normal food pantry visits. Limits may apply based on resource availability.
