The first of three Madison Night Market events starts Thursday, and will require the closing of parts of two Downtown streets beginning in the afternoon.

West Gilman Street will be closed between University Avenue and North Henry Street and North Broom Street will be closed between West Gorham Street and State Street, the Madison Traffic Engineering Division said.

The street closings begin at 2 p.m. Thursday and will continue to 1 a.m. Friday.

The first few hours of the street closings will be used for setup, with the market opening at 6 p.m., closing at 11 p.m.

The market, put on by Madison's Central Business Improvement District in partnership with the city, will feature artisan gifts, local fresh produce, artworks, live music and giant board games.

Madison Night Markets are also scheduled for June 8 and July 13.
