Prep sports: Oregon edges Mount Horeb in boys soccer

Boys soccer

Oregon 4, Mount Horeb 3

Senior Kieran Sweeney headed in a rebound in the 81st minute to lift the host Panthers (1-0-1) over the Vikings (0-2). Just three minutes earlier, junior Sam Johnson tied the game for Mount Horeb. Sophomore Noah Malcook scored two goals for Oregon.

DeForest 4, Beaver Dam 0

The host Norskies got goals from Nick Anderson, Tristan Yizak, Owen Chambers and Keaton Coopman in a victory over the Golden Beavers. Phillip McCloskey made seven saves for the shutout.

Middleton 6, Beloit Memorial 1

Ezra Joseph had three goals to help the visiting Cardinals defeat the Purple Knights. Ben Tutewohl added a goal and an assist for Middleton. For Beloit Memorial, Johnny Leon scored a second-half goal.

Girls volleyball

Waunakee 3, Monroe 0

Kaitlin Jordan totaled 4 kills and 1.5 blocks to help the Warriors (7-2) take down the visiting Cheesemakers (1-7). Mariah Best had 16 assists for Waunakee. For Monroe, Katie Hayes totaled 10 assists and two blocks.

Beaver Dam 3, Stoughton 0

Haley Allen had 15 kills and Leila Ashley added 26 assists, two service aces and seven digs to help Beaver Dam sweep a 25-23, 25-17, 26-24 victory over the visiting Vikings. Stoughton got 24 assists from Ava Jensen.

Milton 3, Monona Grove 0

Jordan Karlen totaled 14 kills, two aces and two blocks to help the visiting Red Hawks take down the Silver Eagles in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 28-26. Alysse Kuglitsen added another two aces and 11 blocks for Milton. For Monroe Grove, Jada Braun totaled 37 assists and Ana Brennan tallied 13 kills.

Columbus 3, Belleville 2

The host Cardinals (7-4) moved into second place in the Capitol Conference race and Belleville (5-4) fell from first to third after its second league loss in as many days. McKenzye Bruss had 13 assists and four aces for Columbus. Callie Smith led Belleville with seven kills and six blocks.

Janesville Craig 3, Beloit Memorial 0

Mckayle Justman delivered nine kills to lead the host Cougars past the Purple Knights in a battle of Big Eight Conference teams. Beloit got 10 kills and 12 digs from Rebekkah DeKok.

Evansville 3, Jefferson 2

Skye McDermott led with nine kills, 12 assists and added six aces to help the Blue Devils to a victory over the visiting Eagles in five sets by scores of 25-14, 29-27 and 15-11. Josey Rinehart added eight kills and 11 blocks.

Girls tennis

Stoughton 4, Monona Grove 3

Annika Goetz swept Maggie Davis by scores of 6-0 6-0, and helped the visiting Vikings defeat the Silver Eagles. For Stoughton, Jordan Bellisle and Lauren Model took down Mia Villaron and Genevieve Pochel by scores of 6-0, 6-1. For Monona Grove, Mary Clark bested Angela Hark in a close match by scores of 4-6, 6-0 and 6-3.

Janesville Craig 4, Verona 3

The Cougars earned their first victory over the Cardinals in at least a decade, according to Janesville Craig coach Pam Clutson. Lucia Hyzer won the No. 1 singles for Craig over Samanth Breitbach, 6-3, 6-3. The pair of Morgan Kreuser and Julia Huseth won No. 1 doubles for host Verona, 6-3, 6-2, but Craig took the other two doubles matches.

Middleton 7, Sun Prairie 0

Middleton defeated visiting Sun Prairie without losing a match. Netra Somasundaram won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and the pair of Noor Rajpal and Cece Hujanen won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
