Jack Berry made 29 saves for his fourth collegiate shutout, and the University of Wisconsin men's hockey team got goals from freshmen K'Andre Miller and Mick Messner and sophomore Tarek Baker in a 3-0 victory over No. 12 Boston College in the regular-season opener Friday at the Kohl Center.
No. 3: Messner made a strong first impression with his goal.
No. 2: Miller looked composed all night, and his goal was the kind of contribution from the blue line that the Badgers hope they'll get this season.
No. 1: Berry was on top of his game throughout, a flashback to the kind of performance he had against Notre Dame last season in Chicago.
The Badgers and Eagles close the series at 7 p.m. Saturday.
At least seven University of Wisconsin men's hockey freshmen will make their college debuts when the Badgers host No. 12 Boston College on Friday (7 p.m., Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus, 1070 AM).
Five of them are forwards on either the third or fourth line, and UW expects energy from them to cover for inexperience.
The Eagles, meanwhile, have only two freshmen in their lineup but one, top-line left wing Oliver Wahlstrom, is worth watching.
