Chryst-Benton commits

A goal-line stand by the Florida Atlantic defense draws a reaction from Paul Chryst during the 31-14 victory on Sept. 9, 2017, at Camp Randall Stadium.

The University of Wisconsin football team secured a verbal commitment from Janesville Craig defensive tackle Keeanu Benton, per multiple reports Friday night. Rivals.com was the first to report the news.

He's unranked by all major recruiting sites but also had an offer from Iowa.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Benton marks the first addition to the Badgers' 2019 recruiting class since two players -- wide receiver Nolan Groulx and safety Bryson Shaw -- de-committed in recent weeks.

Benton becomes the eighth known commitment in UW's 2019 class, joining quarterback Graham Mertz, offensive linemen Logan Brown and Joe Tippmann, athletes Leo Chenal and Marcus Graham, running back Julius Davis and tight end Hayden Rucci.
