When Wiota fell behind on the road, Casey Schroeder came to the rescue with a three-run home run in the seventh inning to help his team earn a 7-3 victory over Dodgeville in a Western Section Home Talent League amateur baseball game Sunday afternoon.
Rooney Janecke started off the scoring in the seventh with a sac fly after Dodgeville walked the first three batters of the inning.
That set the stage for Schroeder’s homer, as Wiota went on to score five runs in the inning.
West Middleton 3, Shullsberg/Benton 1
West Middleton took the lead in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Matt Everson.
Luke Meeteer went 3-for-4 with a double in the home victory.
Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb 14, Hollandale 5
Kyle Esser hit a two-run double in a nine-run eighth inning for Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb on the road.
Pete Hefty doubled and homered to help the cause.
Montello 2, Cottage Grove 1
Anthony Bortz hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth to bring Cottage Grove within one, but Montello pitcher Curtis Morgan stranded him at second to finish the victory at home.
Morgan tossed a complete game, allowing just five baserunners.
Montello’s Nick Uhen went 2-for-3, and D.J. Raasch had a double and one RBI.
Ryan Pollesch also doubled and scored for Montello.
DeForest 6, Rio 0
Julian Edwards and Brock Allen each went 2-for-4, including a home run, to help power visiting DeForest past Rio.
Allen homered in the third to put DeForest up 1-0 and a three-run homer by Edwards in the Deacons’ four-run fifth helped cap things off.
Taylor Mack fanned 10 and allowed three hits in nine innings.
Nate Schmidt went 2-for-4 to lead Rio.
Portage 11, Marshall 0 (7)
Eight hits in the third inning yielded nine runs for Portage on the road, led off by a double from Brady Greene.
Pitcher Colyn Buss struck out nine in a complete-game shutout, only giving up six hits and one walk.
Kalen Mace went 3-for-5 and Avery Alexander added two hits as both finished with two RBIs.
Greene had four of Portage’s 14 hits.
Tate Rose went 2-for-3 for Marshall.
