It's expensive for WEDC to create jobs -- Allen Knop

Many people have been concerned with Gov. Scott Walker's Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

They gave money to companies and lost track of who got the money. They gave millions to outfits without doing adequate checks on the companies' finances. They gave money to "job creators" and never checked to see if these people created jobs.

In the April 23 State Journal, I read WEDC gave a grant to DuraTech Industries to help the company expand to create as many as 50 jobs in La Crosse. This included $215,000 in tax credits, $6.6 million in bonds to La Crosse, plus the city is giving $275,000 in a TIF district. That's more than $7 million.

If the company does provide the maximum number of jobs promised, 50, that equals more than $140,000 per job.

I certainly hope these are high-paying jobs that will remain in Wisconsin, because they are very expensive jobs for we taxpayers to create.
