I was first introduced to Nicki Vander Meulen by my state representative, Chris Taylor, in 2017 while I was in the midst of a Madison School District special education placement conflict for my daughter's needs.
Vander Meulen's personal experience, strive for equity, and conflict-resolution idealism surfaced immediately during our first meeting. She not only took time to hear my story, but encouraged me to keep pressing on and voice my concerns publicly. I am thankful to this day for all her guidance and honesty.
Her role on the Madison School Board protects the most vulnerable in our schools. Vander Meulen raises awareness at the district level about accommodations and opportunities to promote equal access and adaptability. Madison is incredibly lucky to have such a strong and outspoken advocate who keeps inclusive strategies in these conversations.
Vander Meulen is currently running to be my representative to the Assembly in the 76th District. I fully support her aspiration to keep advocating for people with disabilities and community equity at the legislative level. Policy changes are best made with personal experience and exceptional role-modeling: Vander Meulen has a lifetime of both.
