Last Friday's article about the first forum sponsored by the new Tommy Thompson Center at UW-Madison reported that the event will "feature speakers from across the political spectrum." Not surprisingly, this did not allay the fears of Democrats. Two professors had claimed the speaking lineup "skewed conservative."
I'd be interested to learn the percentage of speakers on the UW-Madison campus over the last few decades that have "skewed liberal." If it's less than 99 percent, I'd be shocked.
University administrators are adept at paying lip service to abstractions such as "free speech" and "critical thinking," but they recoil in horror when anyone actually voices views that collide with leftist orthodoxy.
Here's hoping the Thompson Center flourishes and continues to provide a much-needed alternative to the liberal echo chamber that UW-Madison has become.
