Wisconsin must have a clear plan in place to triage the initial offering of vaccinations when they arrive in January (hopefully).
It is obvious that health care workers including nursing home staff should be first. Until everyone who has direct contact with infected or potentially infected people has been vaccinated, it would be difficult to argue that a dose should be diverted to anyone in the general population.
After all the health care workers have been protected, then a strong case can be made to vaccinate workers in essential industries (food stores and other retail businesses). Certainly a plan can be formed, and we should hope that our state leaders are working on that.
And speaking of state leaders, since the Legislature has done little to control the spread of infection in Wisconsin, it should be last to get vaccines.
