Good luck to Little John's venture -- Sylvia Gleiter

With so much bad news these days, it was uplifting to read the State Journal's story about "Little John's" sliding-scale restaurant. Kudos to chef Dave Heide for his great creativity and kindness, and the years of work planning this operation.

In these tough times for so many families, Heide will be using what would be grocery-store waste to help feed those who are struggling. He plans to train and hire veterans who often experience challenges in returning to society after the trauma they've experienced. He wants to help local farmers by purchasing their meat, and provide needed chefs for the local labor market.

I'd say this is a "win, win, win, win" strategy. Turning just part of one day's waste into 600 meals is amazing and bodes well for this venture. Let's support him by eating at his restaurant when it opens and, if we can, leaving generous donations. Also, thanks to Metcalfe's Market and landlord Cannarella for their support. I'm praying for Heide's efforts to be abundantly blessed as he blesses others.
