This election highlights some of the problems surrounding the Electoral College over the years.
In our recent election, President-elect Joe Biden was elected by a clear majority of voters. My issue with the Electoral College is that it is possible for the person who is elected to lose the majority of the popular vote. How can this person serve all the people?
When we elect a senator, it is the votes of all Wisconsin citizens that determine the winner. Likewise, when we elect our representatives, it is the votes in the district that determine the winner. The winner serves those who voted.
Let us be consistent and elect our president by the vote of those he or she will serve -- by the votes of all our nation’s voters, and not by what we call the Electoral College.
Let us avoid the awkward and damaging behavior displayed by the soon-to-be-former president.
