When I decided not to run for re-election to the Madison City Council, I wanted to make sure the person replacing me was intelligent, strong and caring. Most important, this person must have a track record of working hard and accomplishing good things for the North Side.
Rebecca Kemble is that person. She has worked hard to keep neighborhood schools open and helped start two school community gardens in District 18.
The North Side needs an economic boost, and Kemble knows how to provide it. She is president of the U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives and a worker-owner at Union Cab Cooperative. She will be able to effectively implement Madison’s new Cooperative Enterprise Development Initiative by establishing worker-owned businesses that will pay a living wage.
