No record was broken, but the high temperature matched a 78-year-old record Wednesday in Madison.

Weather Central reported a high temperature of 98 degrees Wednesday afternoon — the highest mark for July 25 since 1934.

The heat followed morning showers that dropped 0.28 inches on Madison, bringing the monthly total to 2.31 inches.

Thursday's forecast calls for a high of 90, but conditions should improve on Friday with a high of 82 under mostly sunny skies.
