Honors: Debbie Crave, vice president at Waterloo's Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheese, recently received an Honorary Recognition award from UW-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The award is the highest honor conferred by the college; just 500 have been awarded over the past 100 years.
Crave, a UW-Madison forestry and horticulture graduate, has spent her career promoting state agriculture products, including a year as Alice in Dairyland, 16 years in marketing at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and three years at the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. She became Crave Brothers vice president in 2001.
Valentina Ahedo, program coordinator of Madison Area Technical College's Diversity and Community Relations office, has received the ATHENA Young Professional Award, sponsored by The Business Forum. The award honors emerging community leaders whose achievements make them role models for young women.
Mark Schmitz, principal and creative director of ZD Studios in Madison, has been awarded the 2009 Wisconsin Technical College Boards Association Distinguished Alumni Award. Schmitz graduated from MATC in 1986 with an associate degree in commercial art. His design firm worked on the renovations of both Camp Randall Stadium and Lambeau Field, and Schmitz worked with MATC students to create a video of Frank Lloyd Wright's Spring Green home - Taliesin - for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Wright-designed Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross selected Brendan Eichsteadt of Middleton as their volunteer of the month for November. Eichsteadt is a volunteer instructor for the chapter's health and safety department and a member of their public affairs disaster services team.
United Way Wish Book: The United Way of Dane County 2009 Holiday Wish Book is now available, a list of volunteer opportunities during the holiday season, including delivering meals, spending time with seniors, donating children's toys and more. It's available online at unitedwaydanecounty.org, at schools, religious centers, libraries, banks and grocery stores in the community or by calling the United Way volunteer center at 608-246-4380.
