The Republican congressional candidate who allegedly body slammed a reporter instead of answering his questions would be "very welcome" in Congress, a Wisconsin congressman said Thursday.
U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Glenbeulah, also told a Washington Post reporter that Greg Gianforte, who is seeking to represent Montana in Congress and on Wednesday was charged with misdemeanor assault, seemed "like a good guy."
When asked whether Gianforte should face consequences if he did indeed assault Ben Jacobs, a reporter for The Guardian, after Jacobs pressed Gianforte to answer questions about the Congressional Budget Office's report on the American Health Care Act, Grothman did not directly answer the question.
"We need somebody who's going to come up here and help drain the swamp," Grothman said. "And if you're for draining the swamp, you're on our team, and if you are somebody who thinks government isn't big enough and wants open borders, you're part of the destruction of America."
