A "celebration of life" service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the McFarland High School gym for student Cora Rugland, who died in a car crash in Jefferson County on Friday night. Classes will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, principal Jim Hickey said in an email to students.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:30-7 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive. Memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society or to the McFarland Education Foundation for a scholarship to be established in Rugland's name, Hickey said.

Rugland, a senior, was an honor roll student and the school's junior prom queen last spring, the McFarland Thistle reported. She died in a single-car crash at Pond Road and Highway 26 in the town of Koshkonong, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said. No further details on the cause of the accident were released Sunday.

Three other McFarland high school students also were in the car, Hickey's email said. One of them, senior Emily Inabnet, suffered a broken arm and broken leg and was being treated at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, the newspaper reported.
