An Oregon man was charged Wednesday with first-degree sexual assault of a child after police said he touched an 8-year-old girl on the buttocks while she played a game on a computer at the Madison Public Library.
Alexander M. Cook, 18, told police that he may have touched the girl without realizing it, but the girl told police that Cook told her, “oh baby, you are so hot,” while rubbing her back. The girl told police that he then reached down and grabbed her buttocks, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court.
Cook is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
According to the complaint, the girl was at the library on March 28 when Cook talked to her and touched her while seated at the computer next to her. Police were told by Oregon police that they had multiple contacts with Cook earlier because he had been searching for pornography at the high school, fire department office and library.
Cook said he was looking at “hook up” sites on the computer at the Madison Public Library, 201 W. Mifflin St., and didn’t want the girl to see them. He said he did not remember rubbing the girl’s back but could have run his hand lower on her body without realizing it, but didn’t remember that either.
