Woman with long criminal history sought for check cashing crime spree, Madison police say

A woman with a long criminal history in the Madison area is being sought by police for a check cashing spree that stole tens of thousands of dollars from victims.

Deserah Chapman, 30, no permanent address, is wanted on fraud and identity theft charges, Madison police said.

"The suspect is known to frequent area stores and businesses," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

Chapman also goes by the name Deserah Schuepbach.

Online court records show Chapman with a long history of convictions for forgery, the most recent coming in 2014.

Anyone with information about Chapman is asked to contact Crime Stoppers, 266-6014.
