The freshly-fallen snow early Friday helped Madison police arrest a man allegedly trying to open car doors on the  city's East Side.

Matthew Organ, 29, no permanent address, was arrested for attempted theft and on outstanding warrants, Madison police said.

A resident called police after seeing a man trying to open car doors in the 2200 block of Lakeland Avenue at about 2 a.m.

Police followed footprints in the snow to find Organ.

"Investigators determined he had gone up to dozens of parked vehicles," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

Organ has a history of theft convictions, and currently has an open case in Dane County Circuit Court, online records show.
