Two women trying to drive their vehicles into the same space in a Southwest Side apartment parking lot ended up fighting Tuesday morning before police arrived and arrested both.

The incident happened at about 7:40 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of McKenna Boulevard, Madison police said.

Bettye Emmanuel, 33, was tentatively charged with disorderly conduct while armed and criminal damage to property, and Charmaine Farrille, 27, was tentatively charged with battery.

Police said Emmanuel was trying to get into her garage but couldn't maneuver her car up the driveway because Farrille's SUV was in the way.

"There was an exchange of horns followed by some heated words," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The women got out of their respective vehicles and started to fight, with Farrille allegedly punching Emmanuel twice in the face, breaking her glasses, and Emmanuel ripping out a hair extension from Farrille's hair.

Another neighbor came to quell the fight, but it wasn't over.

"The woman who was the recipient of the blows (Emmanuel) was still upset, so she decided to retaliate further by getting a kitchen knife from her apartment and puncture two of the SUV's tires," DeSpain said.

Police arrived and arrested both women.
