Madison police struggled Monday to piece together the details of a shooting and stabbing that left five people injured at a North Side strip club early Sunday.

Forty to 50 people were inside Visions Night Club, 3554 E. Washington Ave., when the incident took place at about 1:45 a.m., and some of their accounts conflict, said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

“Detectives are going in a lot of different directions in the investigation,” he said.

One man was taken into custody after the incident, but police didn’t say if he was a suspect or if they believe more than one person is suspected of a crime.

Four people were shot and one stabbed, and all but one of them had been released from the hospital, according to police chief Mike Koval.

One shooting victim underwent surgery and was listed as stable, he said.

The incident started when a person who had been kicked out of the club tried to re-enter, resulting in a large fight near the entrance to the club, Koval said.

DeSpain said more information might be released about the incident on Tuesday.

An attempt to reach Visions’ owner Monday was not successful, but the club was open later Sunday and Monday.
