A police dog from the Janesville Police Department chased after a suspected drug dealer who ran from a traffic stop, with the suspect arrested following a short chase.

Sheadrick Williams, 27, Beloit, was taken into custody on tentative charges of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana and resisting an officer, Janesville police said.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. Tuesday when an officer made a traffic stop at the intersection of East Court Street and South Garfield Avenue.

The officer found evidence of drug use in the car, and requested help from a police dog unit.

The front seat passenger fled the car and the dog was dispatched to capture the suspect, who was taken into custody after a short pursuit.
