A Downtown grocery store was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon, and police are thinking the suspect might be the same person who robbed a pizza place earlier in the day.

The Bassett Food Mart, 41 S. Bassett Street, was robbed at about 4:30 p.m., and Falbo Bros. Pizzeria was robbed at about 12:15 p.m., Madison police said.

In both robberies the suspect used a handgun to commit the crime, but nobody was hurt.

In the pizza place robbery, the suspect lingered in the store for about 10 minutes before ordering a pizza, then realized he didn't have his wallet.

"He returned and said 'Forget the pizza, give me the cash,'" said Cindy Deering of the Madison Police Department. About $60 was taken.

The suspect in both armed robberies was described as a white male, thin build, dressed in dark clothing. He also had a black ski mask and goggles on during the Falbo's robbery.
