A woman was found unconscious on the ground early Sunday after she was battered, Madison police said.

Police were responding to reports of a disturbance and shots fired around 1:15 a.m. near West Gorham Street and North Broom Street when they found the unconscious woman. She was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There is no indication that anyone was shot, but a nearby building was likely struck by one round, according to police.

The disturbance apparently was caused by two groups of adults who knew each other, police said. One person was reportedly shot at during the incident.

Others involved in the incident sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
