Madison police are investigating a possible attempted sexual assault that occurred early Monday in the Downtown area.

Police said that a 22-year-old woman reported being attacked about 2:25 a.m. as she walked in the 200 block of North Pinckney Street. She told police that a stranger began following her as she walked on Wisconsin Avenue, and as she approached her home, he grabbed her, threw her down and got on top of her.

The woman told police she managed to break free and get inside her security-locked building. The man fled.

The woman described her attacker as black, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet one inch tall, 180 to 210 pounds and wearing a red t-shirt.
