Madison squad car very close shot

A man was shot on the South Side Friday evening, Madison police said.

The 20-year-old was shot near Seminole Highway and the Beltline shortly before 7:30 p.m. and suffered injuries that were not life threatening, Lt. Scott Kleinfeldt said.

Police had been called to the area for reports of gunfire, Kleinfeldt said. 

"Upon arrival, officers found an individual with a gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid," Kleinfeldt said.

The man was taken to the a local hospital, Kleinfeldt said. 

The shooting comes on the same day as Madison's first homicide of the year.
