Gun-toting drug buyer gets robbed of gun and cash, Madison police say

A Madison man with a handgun in his pocket who went looking for marijuana was robbed by the supposed dealers instead, losing both his money and his gun to the suspects, police reported.

The robbery happened at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of University Avenue,  Madison police said.

According to police:

The 24-year-old victim has a concealed carry permit for the gun.

"The victim said he had hoped to purchase drugs, but instead of producing any pot, the 'dealers' ended up grabbing his money and taking a gun from a pocket," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

Nobody was injured.

The suspects hopped into a car and drove away. One was described as a black man, 5 feet, 10 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with a heavier build and shoulder-length dreadlocks, wearing a brown or tan leather jacket. The other was described as a black man, 6 feet tall, with a heavy build, short hair and dark complexion, wearing a dark baggy jacket.
