Two men robbed a South Side cellphone store Tuesday afternoon, with one suspect putting a knife to the throat of the employee before the suspects fled when a customer entered the store.
The robbery happened at about 3:20 p.m. at Banana Buybacks, 1814 S. Park St., Madison police said.
The employee was not injured.
"Two men entered the store and started inquiring about phones for sale," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "They eventually made their way around the counter."
One of the suspects put a knife to the throat of the employee, then both suspects took cash from the register and many cellphones.
"The victim said a customer entered the store, which scared off the robbers," DeSpain said. "He felt they would have likely taken the store's entire inventory, save for the interruption."
The first arriving officer followed the direction the suspects fled to, and found a few cellphones in an alley.
No description of the suspects was given.
