Two men struck an employee and stole merchandise from an East Side jewelry store on Tuesday afternoon, Madison police reported.

Officers sent to the store in the 2100 block of Atwood Avenue around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday were told by a worker that two masked men entered the store and after a brief altercation struck one of the employees, then fled with a countertop jewelry display case containing jewelry, Lt. David Meinert said in a statement.

It’s easy to prevent being a victim of car-related thefts. Here are some steps to help prevent your contents from being stolen from your vehicle.

The worker said the thieves fled in a silver sedan with heavily tinted windows and no plates, Meinert said.

Police ask that anyone with information on the incident contact them at 608-255-2345. Tipsters may remain anonymous by contacting Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or P3Tips.com. Individuals contacting Crime Stoppers can receive a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.
