LeAnne Hallquist opened Lu Anders Boutique in 2009, after having trouble finding clothing in Madison and reading a local poll that ranked Goodwill as the top choice to shop for women’s clothing.

She describes the style of her curated women’s casual wear as “edgy, but with rounded corners.”

“You can be on trend, but still comfortable in what you wear,” she said.

Hallquist said she strives to find a variety of made-in-America clothing lines. The shop is also known for its selection of Troll Beads jewelry, stacking Chrysalis bracelets and Vera Bradley handbags.

Lu Anders offers personal styling and gift wrap. Hallquist said she and her staff especially enjoy helping husbands find gifts for their wives. “When men come back a second time to buy a gift, that’s when we know we did well the first time,” she said.

Frequent shoppers can take home a “hint card” of gift ideas to aid their spouse in gift buying.

A recent visit to the shop found Yoga Jeans sizes 0 to 16, funky jewelry by Lenny & Eva, fleece-lined leggings, and Vera Neumann-inspired handbags by Brighton.
