A December radiothon hosted by a grateful Madison couple raised $15,475 for the Catholic Multicultural Center, according to Andy Russell, center director.

The center, at 1862 Beld St. on Madison's South Side, provides social services for newly arrived immigrants and the poor.

On Dec. 13, Luis and Lupita Montoto, operators of La Movida, a Spanish-language radio station, sponsored the second-annual radiothon. The center aided the couple when they arrived in Madison many years ago, a story they recounted for the State Journal in an article just prior to the radiothon.
