After five years on Madison's West Side, KJ’s Curry Bowl is closing after dinner service on Dec. 29.

Owner Kethaka Jayawickrema said his wife, Sumudu, is expecting a baby in February and they have three boys at home. "It's kind of a busy life and my kids are always complaining that they don't have time," he said. "We don't have time to spend with them."

Jayawickrema, a native of Sri Lanka, said he and Sumudu will take a break and maybe open another restaurant a year or two from now. "That's our plan."

The main focus of KJ's Curry Bowl was on Sri Lankan cuisine, but the restaurant at 7005 Tree Lane, across from Memorial High School, also serves Asian, Mexican and American food.

It offers a Sri Lankan lunch buffet on Fridays and Saturdays. Jayawickrema said he was pleased by the positive reviews the buffet got on social media and is encouraged to reopen some time in the future.

"A lot of customers were saying, 'Please open again.' And we will miss them, too," he said.
