Eating contest planned
The Second Annual USquare National Food Court Eating Championships will be held on Feb. 5 and contestants are being sought for the what’s being billed as the “Marathon Medley of Munching” sponsored by the New York-based ALL PRO Eating Promotions.
The contests include a statewide collegiate competition, as well as competitions between professional eaters. At stake is $3,500 in prize money. 2010 College Division Champ Jeff “The Boa” Brueng will be on hand to defend his title.

Market needs volunteers
The Dane County Farmers’ Market is looking for volunteers to help with indoor market breakfasts during the winter months. Volunteers work as teams with well-known Madison chefs on a rotating basis.

Classes will get kids cooking
Looking for ways to keep kids entertained over the holidays? Whole Foods Market of Madison has a lineup of cooking classes to help fill the activity void.
On Dec. 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., children can learn to make healthy “snow” treats and other snacks ($15); a cookie exchange for children ages 11 to 15, with each child making one type of cookie, will be held on Dec. 21 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. ($10); on Dec. 17, and Dec. 22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., kids ages 6 to 12 can make edible ornaments ($10); on Dec. 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, kids ages 6 to 12 will make breakfast ($5); and a spa night for girls ages 6 to 12 will be held Dec. 30 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., where they’ll learn to make spa goodies, lip gloss and cookies ($5).
