5. Broadway at Overture
No need to go to New York, Broadway Across America brings two Tony Award-winning productions to the Overture Center, 201 State St., this winter.
A musical revival of a Pulitzer Prize-winning story, “The Color Purple” is an epic story set in the American South. A young woman journeys to love and triumph accompanied by a score of jazz, gospel, ragtime and blues. Recommended for ages 12 and over.
“The Color Purple” runs Feb. 18-23, in Overture Hall. Tickets will be $45-$155 and can be purchased online at overture.org/events, at the box office, or by phone.
The remarkable odyssey of two unlikely friends, “Wicked” returns to Overture Center this winter. A smart, fiery, misunderstood girl is born with emerald-green skin. She meets a beautiful, ambitious, and very popular, girl. This is the story of how they become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good — long before Dorothy drops in on Oz. Recommended for ages 8 and over.
“Wicked” runs March 11-15, 17-22, and 24-29, in Overture Hall. Tickets will be $45-$155 and can be purchased Dec. 7, and after, online at overture.org/events, at the box office, or by phone.
