Madison's Orbitec affected only slightly by rocket explosion

  • 0

Madison's Orbital Technologies Corp., better known as Orbitec, is known for making products for use in space. But the company had only external LED lights on the space station supply rocket that exploded right after launch Tuesday night over Wallops Island, Virginia, spokesman Paul Zamprelli said.

There's no word yet on the cause of the explosion that destroyed the Antares rocket and Cygnus space vehicle owned by Orbital Sciences Corp.

Orbitec, bought in July by Sierra Nevada Corp., makes rocket engines, life support systems for astronauts, and plant growing units for use in space.
