Reports say Great Wolf Resorts has purchased a hotel and indoor water park in Bloomington, Minnesota, across from the Mall of America and will turn them into a Great Wolf property. The Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas, shown above, is one of the Madison company's 14 indoor waterpark resorts.

Madison-based Great Wolf Resorts has purchased a hotel and water park across from the Mall of America for $39.1 million, according to a report Thursday by Finance & Commerce, a Minnesota business publication.

A spokesman for Great Wolf said the company is not yet commenting on the reports.

A city official in Bloomington, Minnesota, had confirmed to the Wisconsin State Journal in December that Great Wolf planned to buy the Radisson Hotel Bloomington and its Water Park of America and remodel them into a Great Wolf indoor water park resort.

An affiliate of Wheelock Street Capital, a Connecticut real estate investment firm, had owned the properties.

Great Wolf has 14 indoor water park resorts across the U.S. and Canada, including two added in 2016 in Garden Grove, California, near Disneyland and in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Colorado resort had a “soft opening” in mid-December and staged a grand opening ceremony last Friday. It was built in a hotel that was never completed and sat vacant for several years, Great Wolf spokesman Jason Lasecki said.

“The structure had some great bones,” Lasecki said.

Lasecki said Great Wolf invested more than $100 million in the project which has 311 suites and a 50,000-square-foot indoor water park.

Great Wolf also has announced plans to build a resort in the Atlanta area that’s expected to be completed in 2018.

The company, owned by Centerbridge Partners, a New York private equity firm, has more than 5,000 employees, including about 240 in Madison.
