CEO Matt Howard and chief technology officer Alex Wyler, both 28, are among 600 young people singled out by Forbes as rising stars in the 20 industries highlighted.
Howard said he and Wyler are excited to be included in what Forbes describes as its “annual list of creative disruption.”
“More than anything, it’s a validation that we’re building something of value — for the team, not just me and Alex, but for everyone at EatStreet and what we’ve built,” Howard said.
Howard and Wyler are named in the “consumer technology” category; they are believed to be the first in Wisconsin to make the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in that field.
“Matt and Alex had a vision from day one to build a pioneering, tech-based business in the Midwest,” said Joe Kirgues, co-founder of gener8tor, the Wisconsin business accelerator from which EatStreet graduated in 2012.
“Being named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 is reflective of their dedication to creating a successful business and solving a problem consumers care about,” Kirgues said.
Founded in 2010, EatStreet, at 316 W. Washington Ave., serves more than 250 metropolitan areas nationwide and has more than 1,000 employees, including delivery drivers in some cities. About 150 employees are in Madison.

The company processed restaurant meal orders for more than 1.7 million customers in the last 12 months, Howard said.
He declined to provide revenue figures and said the privately owned EatStreet is not profitable yet because it is investing revenues in its growth. EatStreet has received more than $38.5 million from investors.
Howard said making the Forbes list will raise awareness about EatStreet and get more people talking about the company.
“Any time you get recognition like this, it’s good for the company — for investors, for customers, and for potential employees,” he said.
“This recognition is a big deal for us, but we hope it goes beyond that by bringing more attention to our Midwest tech community, which is vibrant and full of talent,” Howard said. “Madison is becoming more of a technology hub for startups. The city is moving in the right direction.”
Howard said EatStreet plans to grow by signing up more restaurants within the areas it already serves. By the end of 2020, he said, EatStreet could be fielding food orders in 350 to 400 cities across the U.S.
Forbes said the honorees are chosen from among thousands of nominations. “This list continues to spotlight the impressive, the inspiring and the (genuinely) enviable,” the magazine said.
