The number of school safety grants awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Justice is close to 300 school districts and private schools with the awarding of 40 grants on Tuesday.

Attorney General Brad Schimel made the announcements at the Notre Dame de la Baie Academy in Green Bay.

The money comes from a $100 million grant fund put into the state budget in April to beef up school security after the mass shooting in February in Parkland, Florida.

Grant money is used for enhance door and window security at schools, and for mental health training for staff.

Grants awarded to districts and schools in south-central and southwest Wisconsin on Tuesday include:

  • Central Wisconsin Christian Schools in Waupun, $19,822.
  • Iowa-Grant School District, $41,785.
  • North Crawford School District, $40,440.
  • St. Joseph Catholic School in Fort Atkinson, $20,000.
