Madison La Follette senior Daniel Romero has been named one of 17 Wisconsin recipients of the Evans Scholarship, a full, four-year, tuition-and-housing college scholarship.
Romero will attend the University of Wisconsin. He works as a caddy at Maple Bluff Country Club in Madison and was the No. 1 varsity player for the Lancers' boys golf team last spring.
Romero was selected by a committee that met at Westmoor Country Club in Brookfield last month.
The Evans Scholarship program was founded by Chicago amateur golfer Charles "Chick" Evans Jr., granting scholarships valued at $100,000 to golf caddies who demonstrate academic strength, outstanding character and financial need.
Including the 17 Wisconsin honorees, a total of 935 caddies presently are enrolled in 20 universities nationwide under the Evans Scholarship program. More than 10,400 caddies have graduated under the program since its inception.
