Ron Grovesteen moved to Evansville in 1973 and has dedicated his life to the community, its students and student/athletes.
In a ceremony preceding Friday night's game against East Troy on Senior Night, Evansville High School will name its football facility "Ron Grovesteen Field" to honor his dedication and commitment to excellence.
His career coaching Evansville football has resulted in many awards, honors, and accolades from different organizations throughout the state. Some of his accomplishments include nine Rock Valley Conference Championships and nine Conference Head Coach of the Year awards.
Grovesteen's teams have also compiled 13 second-place finishes and qualified for state playoff competition 18 times, playing in four state semifinal games.
Most noteworthy is his standing among all head football coaches statewide. Ron currently ranks 19th, all-time, with 239 victories and should move into the top fifteen of this prestigious list after this season.
Coach Grovesteen is not just a varsity football coach. He runs the K-6 youth program, and has put in countless hours fundraising to ensure that all kids in the community have safe and up-to-date equipment.
Although Ron is the heart and soul of the football program, his presence has been felt in other areas too. He was the head track coach for 20 years and completed his 36th season last year as an assistant basketball coach.
For more than 40 years, Grovesteen's dedication, commitment, and pride in the Blue Devils' football program has been unparalleled and will never be duplicated.
