UW men's hockey coach Mike Eaves continues to experiment and evaluate his personnel.
When the Badgers open a WCHA series with Alaska-Anchorage at the Kohl Center Friday night, Eaves will use his eighth different lineup in nine games.
The latest concoction:
F Andy Bohmbach-Blake Geoffrion-Craig Smith
F Derek Lee-Ben Street-Ben Grotting
F Jordy Murray-Derek Stepan-Michael Davies
F John Mitchell-Aaron Bendickson-Patrick Johnson
D Ryan McDonagh-Jake Gardiner
D Brendan Smith-John Ramage
D Cody Goloubef-Justin Schultz
G Brett Bennett
Eaves has kept his top three from the Minnesota series. The change is on the fourth line where Mitchell has been inserted. You'll recall he was a healthy scratch for the second Gophers game Nov. 7. Eaves said he was sending a message that he expected -- and the team needed -- more from the big senior.
A couple notes from the Anchorage camp:
+/- Junior winger Sean Wiles, from Beloit, didn't make the trip after suffering a separated shoulder during a WCHA series split with Denver. Wiles is the reigning Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals against the Pioneers.
+/- Sophomore defenseman Kane Lafranchise made the trip, but he has to sit out the opener Friday night. He was assessed a game disqualification penalty for clipping against Denver last Saturday, which means he must sit out the next game.
+/- Sophomore goaltender Bryce Christianson practiced Thursday in a gray Wisconsin jersey turned inside out. Seems he forgot that item of clothing -- as well as his game jersey -- when he packed for the trip. Apparently his father will bring his game jersey today when he arrives from Anchorage.
