The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program will have to keep looking if it hopes to add a transfer to bolster the frontcourt.
Wyatt Walker, a graduate transfer from Samford, announced Friday that he was headed to North Carolina State next season. The Wolfpack, Badgers and Oklahoma State were the finalists for Walker, a 6-foot-9 center.
Walker is scheduled to graduate this spring. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and would be immediately able to play in 2018-19.
UW would like to add an experienced big man to add depth to the frontcourt. Walker was a particularly intriguing option because he’d still be around in 2019-20, when the Badgers’ frontcourt will be in the process of replacing multiple players, would be appealing to coach Greg Gard and his staff.
Walker started 63 games during his first two seasons at Samford. He recorded 17 double-doubles as a sophomore in 2016-17, averaging 12.9 points and 9.7 rebounds, but missed all but two games last season with a leg injury.
