Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Xavier Cedeno delivers a pitch during the sixth inning of the Washington Nationals 5-4 win over the Brewers on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, in Washington.

The Cubs wasted little time filling an open spot on their 40-man roster Wednesday by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno.

Cedeno, 32, posted a 2.43 ERA in 48 appearances with the White Sox and Brewers last season. Cedeno limited left-handed hitters to a .207 batting average and right-handed hitters to a .212 mark in 2018.

The Cubs made room on their 40-man roster earlier by placing pitcher Kendall Graveman on the 60-day injury list.

The addition of Cedeno occurred one day after President Theo Epstein intimated they could add another free-agent reliever.

The Athletic first reported the Cubs' agreement with Cedeno.
