San Diego Padres starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin throws during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, in St. Louis.

Let the audition for rotation spots begin.

Free agent signee Jhoulys Chacin made his first appearance of the spring, throwing a scoreless first inning Sunday in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Chacin allowed a hit and a walk, throwing 12 of his 19 pitches for strikes. Any bumps he may experience this spring may be a result of him being asked to work on his changeup.

Two other free agents signees followed.

Yovani Gallardo made his return to the Brewers — he wore a Milwaukee uniform in a game for the first time since 2014 — by working the second inning. He walked two but did not allow a run.

He admitted being “a little bit too excited” while throwing half of his 28 pitches out of the strike zone.

Wade Miley followed with two more scoreless innings against his former team, allowing two hits and striking out two. He threw 16 of 24 pitches for strikes.

Hernan Perez hit a double in the second to drive in Jett Bandy and Nick Franklin, and added another RBI double in the sixth to drive in Mauricio Dubon.

Ji-Man Choi added a two-run home run in the seventh.
